Government regulations were drafted
ten years ago. It's time to make them work!

In the aftermath of the Westray Tragedy in May 1992, the then Cameron government ordered a complete review of existing occupational health and safety legislation and regulations in Nova Scotia. As part of this review, a number of new areas of regulation were proposed including violence in the workplace. There was a discussion paper prepared in 1993.

A joint labour-management working group prepared a report in March 1995, invited public comment by May 31 and prepared drafting instructions by the fall. It was then reviewed by the Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Council, Priorities and Planning and the OH&S Division of the Department. At the same time, another working group was established before the Advisory Council approved revised drafting instructions in January 2002. It has been awaiting direction since that time.
